Yo I am one depressed and frustrated iPhone owner, let me tell ya… It looks like my iPhone 2G, that I use with T-mobile, is now locked and permanently un-jailbreakable. But let’s start from the beginning…

It all started when I download a free app from the App Store. It said it was “compatible with OS 3.1.2 and up”. I was still using OS 3.0, ‘cuz… come on, there’s really nothing gained from upgrading to 3.1.2 and each time you jailbreak, you run the risk of **** goin’ wrong and who knows what. But when I downloaded this free app, low and behold, the crappy little thing wouldn’t start. I realized then, that it was time to upgrade to OS 3.1.2… I should say, find a way to jailbreak to it.

So I downloaded Geohot’s Blackra1n tool, since it’s the “easiest jailbreak in history” or some crap that he says. It is easy… except for the fact it didn’t do ****. But I figured it wasn’t really the program’s fault, because most attempts to jailbreak don’t go right at first for the Neocell. Seems to always be the case, so I always try over and over again whenever I jailbreak ‘cuz eventuality it’ll work. But no go this time…

I checked online for some trouble shooting, and most people who said they had problems said to upgrade directly to OS 3.1.2 from iTunes (who I DO NOT recommend) and then jailbreak. I did that and well, **** kinda’ went downhill from there.

Once iTunes went through the long process of updating to iTunes 3.1.2, I then lost the ability to jailbreak at all.

Yep… now the Neocell is permanently unjailbreakable. Now, I can’t jailbreak… at all. Tried multiple ways to jailbreak, tried restoring through iTunes… all the same thing. There still could be a way to upload a jailbroken “image” through iTunes manually, but that’s only with an activated AT&T SIM and crap. I’m hoping that I can find some way to still jailbreak.

But man, this sucks. It looks like I may have to get an iPhone 3GS sooner than I thought… and wouldn’t you know, I’d end up getting one of the 3GS’s that you can’t jailbreak. Man this sucks…

Peace, J

What’s the deal with the Maps app? You know, the built in Maps app from Google Maps. For some reason, whenever you search for a place in Maps and try to add it as a contact, either as a new contact or to an existing contact, it doesn’t seem to take all information in.

I took screen shots of exactly what I’m talkin’ about. I searched using a random word, “power”. I got some hits around me, one of them being “Power Cold Corporation”. Hmm, seems interesting, right? I see all the details for this company, including name, address, phone number, hey… even a web site. Cool, right? Let’s add it as a contact. I go through the process as you can see… Now, let’s check to see if the contact is really was added. I go into contact and… boom, there it is, great. Let’s give them a call, I simply touch on the contact to see the information and… what the **** is this?? Where’s all the contact information?? Why the freak do I only have the web site??

Now you see exactly what I’m talkin’ about. What’s up with this? Is this an OS 3.0 thing or what? Is this one of those “bugs” that need to be fixed for OS 3.0 and Apple knows about it, or is it a unique thing, happenin’ to only a few people?

So what about y’all? Any of you experiencin’ the same thing?

Peace, J

Relaxin’ in bed, figured it was time to bring back Adblock, Inspell and Backgrounder… If you remember my post about the naked jailbroken 3.0 speed… well this is an update for it. Turns out the system did slow down just a little with no jailbroken apps installed.

I guess that’s just part of the way the OS is designed. Once you install it and jailbreak it fresh, it runs real fast and snappy… but then slows down some after time. Once it’s been used some.

So I reinstalled Inspell, Adblock and next I’ll be installing Backgrounder back on. I haven’t noticed any speed change with Adblock or Inspell installed, which is good. And let me tell ya, I was missin’ Inspell like a mother…

You know one thing that’s not right after installing OS 3.0, at least for me? Fifty percent of the time I dock the Neocell into it’s dock at my bed side, system sounds stop playing. Music will play, the alarm will go off, the ringer will work and all app sounds work… but the system sounds, like the keyboard clicks or “new mail” sounds don’t work. They won’t work until a few minutes, or until I go into the system sound settings and turn the ringer volume down, then up.

I’ve searched online and haven’t noticed anyone else having this problem. I wonder if this is something unique for me, or if it has something to do with the custom system sounds I have installed manually installed.

See, I have an iPhone dock next to my bed. It’s got the USB cable hooked up to it, for power, and it’s also got the line out connected to a really nice small stereo sitting next to it. When I set the Neocell down into the dock, it automatically is connected to power and all sound then automatically plays through the stereo. Ring tones, alarms, new mail notifications, music, you name it, it all plays through the speakers sitting under the table. It’s really ******’ tight to be able to hear your phone ring from the kitchen.

Well, from what I assume, because of the Neocell detecting it’s connected to a dock with a lineout connected, when I undock, it must get a little confused and doesn’t realize “Hey, you need to start playing sound from the internal speaker again”… so when I undock, no sounds. The only way’ta fix it is either to wait a few minutes, or, go into the system settings, turn down the ringer, then turn it back up… which then fixes it. This didn’t start until after OS 3.0.

Kinda’ annoying… but because it looks like I’m the only one havin’ this problem, it’s not gonna’ be something that’ll get fixed. That kinda’ sucks. Any of you havin’ this problem?

You guys hear about the text message security hole found in iPhones? If ya haven’t, in a nutshell, one person found a way to send SMS control (text) messages to iPhones that can either make them not respond for a short time, or take limited control of them. Don’t worry… it ain’t all that.

Basically, someone would have to rediscover this hole in iPhones (something unlikely for anyone to do), then know the phone number of someone who has an iPhone… then send them all these text messages… and for what, to bug someone who’s got an iPhone? Man, I ain’t worried about it myself… and not just because i can’t even receive text messages, but the odds of someone discovering this bug again, and then hitting you with it, the odds are about as good as you winnin’ the lottory.

But, there is a fit for it… Apple released a patch, OS 3.0.1, that plugs up the hole. And, here’s the best part… people who are jailbroken, like me (via Redsn0w), are able to upgrade to the OS 3.0.1 and then jailbreak with Redsn0w (using the same Redsn0w files). Basically, you’ll need to reinstall your OS and then rejailbreak.

But I ain’t doin’ it… ya know? I mean, this isn’t something you need to go out and do. I’m waiting on patches that fix things that effect things we actually do or use. You can if you want, but I’m not updating…

Peace, J

So I’ve got the Neocell’s OS 3.0 reinstalled and jailbroken now, and I’ve got all my non-jailbroken apps and media reinstalled… I haven’t touched Cydia or installed any jailbroken apps, and I’m just noticing the amazing speed perormance. I’m talkin’ speed compared to how the Neocell was when it was running good with the jailbroken apps working.

Right now I’ve got nothing installed… and the speed’s much faster than when I had my jailbroken apps installed. So that either means one of two things… either the quick speed is from having the OS reinstalled and it’ll slow down some after I’ve used it some more, or one of three jailbroken apps are slowing the system down. If it is that, the only apps it could be would be BossPrefs, Inspell and Backgrounder.

There could be one other thing… Winterboard. If you read my posts from before, I had Winterboard installed. It made **** so slow and I removed it. But maybe that messed up crap and helped to make things slow.

So I’m gonna’ run a little experiment… I’m not gonna’ install Backgrounder or Inspell to see if performance stays snappy. And in fact, since BossPrefs doesn’t work for wifi, I’m not gonna’ install it at all.

Here’s the reason speed’s so important to me. Speed is “ok” while in apps, but for switching between apps… that’s where speed’s the biggest issue. Someone comes up and says “Where’s the location…” of something. No prob, right? It can be if **** takes a long time. You’ve got the address in Notes. Gotta’ open it up, select the note… then, click the link to open the location up in Maps, then let’s say you wanna’ add the location of it to your contacts. Well if your gonna’ get delay and sluggishness between each action you make, it really becomes frustrating and embarasing. “Opps… wait… Wait…”

So I’m runnin’ the Neocell naked for a while to see how things go before I install Backgrounder or Inspell. Then I’ll let ya all know what kinda’ results I found.

Peace, J

I’ve been busy, so for the past week I’ve been havin’ to deal with a sluggish iPhone. This is the first time I’ve time to work on the Neocell. So that’s what I’m doin’ right now. Restored the Neocell to blank OS 3.0, then jailbroke, and now I’m restoring some of the files and media back. Still got a long way’ta go to get everything back to what it should be.

Just let this be a lesson for anyone tryin’ to get the push notification working… it ain’t workin’ yet.

You hear there’s a fix for push notification for jailbroken iPhones? Yeah, there is… don’t mean the ***** works though.

First a little info, jailbroken iPhone’s with OS 3.0 don’t have push notification. And they never will unless a new jailbreak is created, or if there’s a fix that’s applied to your phone. In other words, it ain’t gonna’ just start working out of the blue.

There are two “fixes” for push notification. And, well, neither of them work… at all. At least for me and a **** load of other people out there. I think it’s safe to say that you can’t trust random freakers commenting on whether something works or doesn’t work on the net. But when someone like me says it, that holds more true.

I mean it doesn’t for me and I spent two hours with both fixes and neither did ****. And worst, I’ve got a slowdown in my system now and need to reinstall my OS to get rid of whatever crap that wasn’t removed (and I removed most of the changes made). Not to mention it also removes your password for your email and exchange services.

Do you wanna’ put yourself through this? I so don’t recommend it at all. Let people like me try out **** like this, and if we get it working, then we’ll let you know so you don’t have to go through crap like this.

Peace, J

Well it’s about time. Since OS 3.0 came out, the free Wordpress app has been kinda’ buggy. When you’d start it up, if you didn’t like move your iPhone around to let the app since what angle it was being held in (horizontal and not vertical), once you started a new post or opened a draft, the text would only be viewable for one line of text no matter what orientation you had it in. You’d have to close the app out, start it up again, rotate your iPhone some, and then see a glitch animation to appear to know it wad then safe to go into a post.

So it’s good to see that they’ve fixed this issue… and hopefully any others. (like a photo posting bug)

Most of you that are runnin’ the jailbroken OS 3.0 should know by now, but the Dev-team hasn’t figured out how to get push notifications working for our jailbroken versions of OS 3.0 yet.

What’s this mean? This means none of us runnin’ any jailbroken version of OS 3.0 has push notifications. They’re trying to figure how why it’s not working, and hopefully once when they get a jailbroken version of OS 3.1 created after OS 3.1 is released, they’ll figure out why push notifications don’t work.

Kinda’ sucks… no, really sucks. It’d be great to have that for IM apps. But yo, I ain’t complainin’. I care more about more features being released for Backgrounder than push notifications personally. I can minimize an IM app to the background if I really have to. Although, minimizing drails battery life so bad, push notifications wouldn’t.

Peace, J
