iPhone OS 3.1.2 AT&T Tethering Jailbreak How-to

Check it out, I found a way to enable internet tethering for OS 3.1.2 for AT&T. This isn’t some crappy third-party app or half-baked hack that promises to work but doesn’t… If your jailbroken running OS 3.1.2, it enables the stock tethering feature of internet tethering from Apple. Best of all, you can install it all from Safari without anything extra.

  1. In Safari, go to http://m.peacefulinsanity.com/Tether.mobileconfig.
  2. Touch “Install” and go through all the prompts.
  3. Reboot.
  4. Now go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering

And that’s it. You now got internet tethering. And yes, I’ve tried it on both the Neocell 3GS and my girl’s iPhone 3G and it works on both. Pretty bad ***, huh?

Peace, J

Yeah, it'll work immediately after installing. So if it don't work after rebooting, it means that it just won't work for ya D. Let's hope that tethering for AT&T is official this up coming WWDC2010 June 7th. Then people won't have to deal with a hack. JbB

Ive downloaded the tethering profile twice and it still isn't showing up under network. It is listed as its own profile. When I click on it, the only option it gives me is to remove or more details. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that's the "classic" problem 10% experience. The only thing that seems to work at this stage Don is to backup all your data (both through iTunes and manually), completely reset (erase) all data from your iPhone so it acts like a brand new iPhone and try the tethering method. When you do bring your data back in, don't "restore", just transfer files over. You've got something funky with your iPhone's OS that's not allowing this to work, and restoring may bring back the problem preventing you from doing this. If it works, then you know that was the issue. If for some reason it still doesn't work, then restore back. Beyond that, your stuck. Keep us updated.

I've posted a new how-to that includes how to tether on non-jailbroken iPhones too.
