Backgrounder Just Got Better
Wow man… I mean wow, Backgrounder just got better. One of the release versions came out with a new system for managing how backgrounding is managed. You can enable a task type system for minimizing programs. The old way still works, and is set by default, but this new way allows you to actually manage minimized programs, pretty much the way the Palm Pre does.
Instead of holding down the home button and simply minimizing the program, you hold down the home button and you get an “Active Applications” screen. This shows you what program you have open right now, and what programs you have running in the background.
But I’ll get back to that in a second. Backgrounder added something else great. They added a way to see what programs are running in the background, programs you don’t even realize could be running in the background, like Mail, Phone, Safari, ect…
This whole process allows you to see what programs are running in the background, even for your springboard icons. You’ll see a little “working” icon on the icons that are running in the background.
But where it gets all tied together is in the active applications window. Once you bring that window up, your able to head to back home to the springboard or quit an app that’s runnin’. It’s really a whole new system with this one little task manager thing.
Haha, I get a kick outta’ wakin’ up to a Sprint kiosk asking them about the Palm Pre. When I mention “That’s cool, it’s no iPhone, but it’s cool…” and they then say **** like “This can do things the iPhone can’t!”. Because of the OS 3.0 update, the only thing they can say the Pre can do that iPhones can’t is backgrounding. I then load up WunderRadio, bring up backgrounder and switch to another program while it plays in the background. All they can do is look back at their Pre and say “Oh…”. Haha.
Great ******’ job to Bigboss, creator of one of the single most important app for iPhones. Bigboss, I get you some good lovin’, you deserve it.
Peace, J
