So get this… it came time for me to move to a new place with my girl… We just finished moving everything today. So big deal, what’s this gotta’ do with iPhones?6′ Well check it, both of our laptops died recently… and we’ve got two desktops, one, the Neocomp, is a very powerful customized (one of a kind) desktop (see pic below) and the other is our media center desktop (mainly for watching Hulu on our TV). We got two desktops in the apartment right now, but no internet. Our cable provider won’t be out to switch our TV and Internet on until three days from now.
The point… we’ve got no access to the Internet (no cable Internet, no open wifi’s near) except for… the Neocell! Because the Neocell has it’s own (slow) Internet, the Neocell’s become our only computer in the house (when it comes to getting online) for the next few days.
So what’s this gonna’ be like? It’s not a big deal bein’ without the Internet for a few days, but it’s a really interesting concept… having such a powerful handheld device, such as an iPhone, be your only “computer” so-to-speak. What’s it gonna’ be like having to rely strictly on T-mobile’s Edge for all our net needs? I think this is gonna’ give me a taste of what’ll be like in the future, when a very select few people only have an always connected mobile device as their only “computer” in the house.

The free What’s On app had an update I noticed tonight. The What’s On app is the free TV guide program that I use. I use it so much in fact that I keep it on my main springboard page
I downloaded the app and guess what… it’s a whole new freakin’ redesign with a bunch of really kick *** features installed. One of the features they added is channel icons. Look at the screen shot at the bottom to see what I’m talkin’ about. That’s a really great feature, it’s like… it makes it feel that much more professional, ya know?
Um, what else… oh yeah, the ability is go to a specific date and time is a fine *** feature. “Baby, do you know if a new episode of The Office is on this Thuraday?” How do you answer? You say “Let me find out What’s On…“. And the animations they added is really a great touch for moving to different dates.
Now this is something I probably didn’t know about and existed in the first version, but the ability to easily and quickly add different locations for where you are is nice. What do I mean by that? I mean if you travel to another city and wanna’ know what’s on cable or digital over the air or (yuck) Verizon FIOS, you can. You can search by entering your location or by letting your iPhone find your location. And it doesn’t do anything stupid like merge different channels together, it switches out your channel line up. Got a channel you hate (like all those Spanish channels)? No prob, What’s On will remember what channels you add or remove, even when you switch saved providers. Like at home, our TV’s are programmed to skip all the Spanish channels, public access channels and spam channels (i.e. QVC). So, I programmed the What’s On app to do the same thing. Nice.
Another great thing I love is the new look of it. It just looks so nice ‘n’ polished. I honestly can’t believe this is a free app!
This is something completely new they added. Normally any kinda’ apps that add a news feed kinda’ system end up bein’ useless. But what they added is something really interesting. They added a news feed from somewhere that tells you what happened last night. Now I’m the type of person who doesn’t care anything about celebeties… at all, or give a **** about entertainment news. But this is something really interesting. If you wanna’ find information about something… “Was it just me or did that episode seem really odd last night?”, you can find out. Or, maybe just find out what you missed. I love that.
They also even have a really great feature for finding movies that are out, or will be coming out, in theaters. I don’t go out to watch movies (why watch what you can steal online, he-he-he), so I don’t want an app on my iPhone just for movies… forget that. That’s why I love it being part of the What’s On app. When someone does ask one day “I wonder what new movies are coming out this weekend?”, I know I’ll have the answer with What’s On.
This company may not be making any money with their ad-free! product, but look at my main springboard screen. Notice they’re there, along with Wordpress, Cycorder, Balance and Pandora? All free programs. They may not be makin’ money, but they remain one of the very BEST apps for the iPhone. Much respect.
What about y’all, any of you usin’ What’s On?

Poor Pocket PC’s are doomed… Gone are the days of Pocket PC’s really. The best, most advanced Pocket PC’s were all the ones that weren’t phone models. The phone models (the ones that coined the name “smart phone”) were all extremely weak, had crap for memory or storage and, worst, they many weren’t a touch screen.
Now, being that Microsoft is trying to copy iPhones for their “smart phone” Windows Mobile (what used to be known as Pocket PC’s), the days of Pocket PC’s are really gone. Anything any company releases will simply be a cell phone version of Windows Mobile… and of course they’ll be crappy compared to current or future iPhones.
I really can’t believe Pocket PC’s have passed away… Then again, I’m writting this on the Neocell, an iPhone, so the reality of it’s in my hands.

Ugg… ‘nother ******’ jailbroken app I’ve had to uninstall. **** too, I loved Inspell. Amazing app. Truly… amazing. But the little ‘freaker was slowin’ down the system… and started slowly makin’ typin’ unbearable. I mean, what was I to do?? I’d deal with people who had iPhones with OS 3.0. What am I to do with spelling on the Neocell but have it be sluggish? Brag to non-jailbroken OS 3.0 iPhone users:
“Well I’m customized, I actually got spellin’ on my iPhone.”
“For real? Oh my god. Girl, come see this, this boy’s got spelling on his iPhone… Show us.”
“‘Ight, check it out… wait… the Notepad app’s not, wait… gotta’ wait for the, um… keyboard will take just a sec… it’s… ‘freak, come on… do something… it’s really not that slow when, oh, ok, it’s ready.” *tap tap tap* “See? Spelling.”
“Wow, that’s awesome… but, um, why is everything so slow?”
Yeah, um… **** that. And here’s the worst part… besides Adblock, it’s the only jailbroken app I have running with my system. I’m not even using Backgrounder. That’s pure sluggishness, Inspell, all by itself. And it’s not Adblock doin’ it because didn’t install Adblock until after Inspell started making the system sluggish. And no, I didn’t have nothin’ funky added into Inspell, just the normal app and everything that came with it (just the English dictionary, no other languages).
So how bad was the sluggishness? Bad… You could feel it just swiping through springboard pages (springboard is the icon desktop thing). Once I uninstalled it and anything else that was also installed with it the speed came right back after a reboot. It absolutely was Inspell. That’s sad man… that’s real sad.
The Neocell’s speed is almost the exact same as non-jailbroken OS 3.0 iPhones (you really can’t tell the difference), so ****’s runnin’ top notch now, but… I miss Inspell and Backgrounder.
