SBSettings Rocks

March12

Man, I’m lovin’ SBSettings. It’s an app for jailbroken iPhones. SBSettings is a replacement for Bossmods. SBSettings let’s you have instant access to buttons to turn on or off things like Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Edge, and also have quick access to brightness.

Bossmods was ok, but it was a page you had to load up and you choose what you wanted or didn’t want. With SBSettings, you swipe your finger across the top of the screen, like unlocking your phone, just from the top. You can do this in almost every program. Once ya do, you see a menu over the screen with simple buttons.

I’m not gonna’ explain it to death, I just wanted to say how useful it is. Most people are all ******* about how iPhones don’t have good battery life. Hey dip *****, turn off some of the things your not using.

This is how I use it. When I’m at home, only wi-fi is on. When I leave for work, I turn wi-fi off and turn Bluetooth on (so the NeoCell can connect to my TomTom 930 gps). When I get to work, I turn Bluetooth off and wi-fi back on. And the same thing for the ride home. Today on the ride home, only Bluetooth was on (car phone), but there was some traffic on N Dale Mabry Hwy, so I turned Edge on also to get online for a few minutes. After I was done being’ online (once traffic cleared), I turned Edge off. Once I got home, Bluetooth off, wi-fi on. I do all this because it gives you so much more battery time because all three devices are radio devices, using’ power to broadcast crap, whether your connected or not.

This would be a pain, but with SBSettings it’s so nice ‘n’ easy like Georga Weezy…

But another really important feature is the ability to hide icons. Hiding icons is great because it frees up space on your springboard. You can do that with SBSettings.

A little advice though, when you open SBSettings, press the home button to exit it (the home button won’t close an app you have open by the way). When you wanna turn off let’s say Edge and Bluetooth, turn Edge off last as it takes longer to turn on and off.

SBSettings is just another reason to jailbreak. You can find SBSettings in Cydia.

Backgrounder Workin’ Again

March12

Yes… ‘Freakin’ yes… Backgrounder, the jailbroken app that let’s you run programs in the background, has finally started workin’ for me again.

For a while now, Backgrounder just wouldn’t work for me. It worked for one day and then stopped. Disabled Vwallpaper just a few minutes ago and Backgrounder starts working for an unknown reason? No, I think there’s a reason..,

The iPhone OS is great at handling program freezes. When a program freezes, instead of it locking up the system, the OS cleverly just closes that program. Most of the time, programs freeze because they run out of memory.

If Vwallpaper was causing a lot of memory to be used to render the video, then whenever I would try to minimize a program, the program would run out of memory (because the system had to display the video background) and that would cause the program trying to run in the background to freeze and then close. It seemed like Backgrounder wasn’t doing it’s job because the program would close instead of minimize, buy na… the program was crashing, because of all the memory being sucked by Vwallpaper.

So man, it’s not lookin’ good for Vwallpaper. I can’t have it messin’ up the system like that. I’m gonna check it out some more though.

Peace, J

Is Vwallpaper Slowing System Performance?

March12

So ‘ight, one of the very first things I installed once I jailbroke the NeoCell was Vwallpaper. Vwallpaper is amazing, it allows you to have a video as your springboard background. For the NeoCell I got custom red neon pixel lights, it’s bad *** but hard to explain.

Well I’ve started to notice my system’s become a little bit sluggish. Sometimes it’ll run fast but most times it’ll not feel so fast when closing or opening programs. Now it may seem clear… “Oh it’s Vwallpaper.” but there are times when the homescreen will be perfectly fast with Vwallpaper running.

It’s been causing the most problems today. ****, I had programs like notes take forever to load or contacts ‘n’ stuff.

But just a little while ago, Vwallpaper crashed and the speed of the system seemed very quick. Hmm… Could it be Vwallpaper? I’m disabling and / or uninstaling it for a few days to see if the system sees any major improvement and them get back to you all on the results.

I’m gonna’ be ****** if I have to stop usin’ Vwallpaper, one of my absolute fav apps / add ons / customizations.

Peace, J
